Helps families with children who have complex medical needs navigate the healthcare system, finding both medical and non-medical services through support, education, advocacy, and referrals to programs and services. Includes:

  • Understand medical diagnosis and needs
  • Answer questions about screening, testing, and care plans
  • Navigate the healthcare system
  • Listen to concerns
  • Connect with programs and services (social programs, community groups, counselling, spiritual care)
  • Support during out-of-province medical travel
  • Coordinate care between provinces
  • Connect to financial resources for medications, travel, and medical supplies

Provides specialized comprehensive assessments of older adults with the goal of improving their health and/or quality of life. The assessments focus on function to help support older adults to remain healthy and independent for as long as possible. Functional assessments may benefit older adults who are experiencing difficulties in one or more of the following area:
  • Memory
  • Depression
  • Mobility and gait
  • Daily care, e.g. bathing, grooming or cooking
  • Medication management
The assessment will be performed in a setting most appropriate to the client's needs. e.g. At home; in a long-term, community care or acute care facility; or at the Provincial Geriatric Program office

Provides education, assessments, and preventative nail and foot care for people living with diabetes with a moderate or higher risk of foot problems. Includes:

  • Foot and nail assessments by a foot care nurse
  • Nail care, callus care, and corn care
  • Education and promotion of self-care or caregiver-provided care
  • Education to prevent common foot issues
  • Foot care nurses provide surface care only and can recommend medical follow-up for infections, wounds, or other issues

Note: Home visits are not offered.

Provides stroke survivors and caregivers support in getting the help they need from health care professionals and community resources. Includes:
  • Connecting you with health care professionals who can provide supports
  • Helping you find and access community resources
  • Providing your with access to informative booklets, websites and support groups
  • Answering questions about the stroke recovery process

Provides immunization services and information for adults. Information can be found on website about how often or under what circumstances adults need to receive specific vaccinations. Public Health Nursing can also provide you with a record of all vaccines you have received in Epekwitk / PEI (if available) free of charge.
Note: Free seasonal flu clinics are also offered by Public Health every fall and winter

Provides hearing services for children and adults. Includes:
  • Hearing assessments
  • Hearing aids for clients up to age 21
  • Auditory processing disorder testing
  • Health hearing education
Note: Costs for some services provided by private audiologists are covered once every 2 years for Islanders age 4 years and older(referral required).

Provides parents the opportunity to drop-in with their children to ask questions and get help with any breastfeeding concerns they may be experiencing.

Provides safe and effective vaccines to Island children to help protect them against specific communicable diseases. Immunizations can be provided during scheduled visits to schools or by appointment.

Note: A full schedule of recommended childhood vaccinations is available on the website.

Provides nutrition guidance for individuals who are pregnant and offers feeding and nutritional support and advice for new parents. Registered dietitians are available by telephone, online or in-person. Includes:
  • Nutritional assessment and counselling: Promotes a healthy pregnancy
  • Nutritional supplements: In case of a high-risk pregnancy, approved supplements might be available at no cost
  • Milk Ticket Support: Milk tickets are available for eligible clients who are participating in regular nutrition counselling with dietitians
  • Services for infants and toddlers: Offers advice on healthy eating for new parents, guidance on infant feeding, and help with breastfeeding challenges
  • Services for families with children ages five to 10: Lifestyle Triple P Parenting Program is available for parents who have a child who is overweight or obese or who may want to promote a healthier lifestyle
