Medical Expense Assistance

Help with the cost of medical care for prescriptions, equipment or assistive devices, rebates to help make homes more accessible, how to apply for publicly funded health care, and more. Also includes short term medical equipment loans and free access to health related items or services like pregnancy tests, hearing and eye exams, or safer sex supplies. Mental health counselling, emotional support, community based cultural support services, and some assistance with transportation costs is available to those affected by missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.

Transportation assistance is provided when local professional counselling and cultural support services are unavailable, including costs to see Elders and traditional healers away from home.

Islanders who have been pre-approved for out-of-province medical services may be eligible for travel assistance to appointments in NS and NB through Maritime Bus.

Note: Applicants must apply at least 10 days before out-of-province travel, and the application must be approved prior to purchasing tickets.

Provides cost assistance to help eligible applicants pay for approved prescription medications in cases where the cost of medication is making it difficult to pay for other life expenses.

Annual out-of-pocket costs for eligible medications are caped at a maximum of 6.5% of of household income. See website for details on household caps.

  • Blood strips
