Transportation services that help people get to medical appointments, including adaptive modes of transportation.

Provides emergency medical services, patient transfer services, and land ambulance services across Epekwitk / PEI and to appointments in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
Note:

  • A referral is not required to arrange transportation to scheduled medical appointments at clinics and hospitals
  • Fees do apply for services * Emergency service is fully covered for Island residents who are 65 years and older
  • Fees are covered for ground ambulance to Halifax, St. John, Fredericton, and Moncton if a PEI resident is an inpatient with a physician referral for service
  • Air ambulance fees are covered for PEI residents. See website for details on fees.

Provides financial assistance for individuals living with epilepsy and their families who have to travel off-Island for epilepsy treatments. Includes:

  • Out-of-province medical travel
  • Co-payment for medications and more (Financial assistance is managed on a case-by-case basis, contact for more details)

  • Ongoing costs associated with having a feeding tube

Provides free fuel cards to families who must frequently travel to the IWK to provide their children with urgent medical care.

Provides flights to connect people in palliative or critical care with their loved ones by using donated points and cash to purchase flights. Each individual situation is evaluated amd approval is not guaranteed.

Note: Generally a response to submitted requests is issued within 48 hours.

Provides free flights to low-income Canadians who must travel to medical care that does not exist in their communities. Free flights are also available for someone to accompany a patient under 18 years. If medically necessary, a free flight may be available for someone to accompany a patient over 19 years. Services include:

  • Free Flights
  • Free ground transportation
  • Free meal vouchers
  • Free hotel/lodge accommodations

Hotel accommodations and meal vouchers are also available to applicants who are driving 80km or more from home for the medical appointment.

Provides a one-time $1500 travel assistance grant for eligible PEI and Nova Scotia residents who are waiting for a lung transplant.

Provides access to a registered nurse who is assigned to assist Islanders receiving care at QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax or the Moncton Hospital. The liaison nurse is stationed at the hospital where the patient is being cared for and can help PEI patients and their families:
  • Connect with other health care professionals
  • Locate programs and services that are available to help
  • Assist with the discharge process from an out-of-province hospital

Provides cost assistance for travel and accommodation to eligible people who have to travel outside the Maritimes (PEI, NBk, and NS) for transplant surgery.

  • Travel: By reimbursement only. Applicants can claim up to $1,500 every six months for one round-trip by car or economy plane, bus or train ticket.
  • Accommodation: Applicants may be eligible for $2,500 per month to assist with accommodation costs. Utilities and other living expenses are not eligible.

  • Transportation in specially equipped vans that feature hydraulic lifts, ramps, special tie-downs and safety seat belts
  • Provides non-emergency stretcher transportation
  • Offers sightseeing tours for visitors
  • Can provide a wheelchair at no extra cost
  • Can transport patients to other Maritime provinces, NB and NS
  • Can accommodate group bookings
  • Flexible with hours and transportation locations (may be able to provide transportation outside the Maritimes and at hours outside regular times if arranged in advance)
  • Inexpensive, flat rates within the Greater Charlottetown area, mileage fees apply outside the area
