Helps residents who want to stop smoking or using other tobacco products by covering 100% of the cost of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) products and specific smoking cessation prescription drugs. There are two options for treatment, available once a year for 6-18 weeks of treatment:
  • Option 1: Non-Prescription Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) products such as patches, gum, lozenges, or inhaler
  • Option 2: Approved prescription medication (Zyban or Champix)

Provides eligible applicants with financial assistance to pay for approved nutritional supplements that have been recommended by a dietitian to treat phenylketonuria (PKU). Includes:

  • Full cost coverage for eligible special low-protein formulas
  • Annual coverage up to $3600 for specialty food items carried through the National Food Distribution Centre

Eligible applicants may receive up to 100% cost coverage for out-of-pocket expenses associated with purchasing approved ostomy supplies. Maximum coverage available between July 1-June 30 each year is $2,400 and is calculated based on household income.

Ostomy supplies eligible for coverage include:
  • Skin wafers
  • Ostomy pouches
  • Adhesive removers
  • Skin barrier wipes
  • Stoma powders, pastes and barrier rings
  • Ostomy belts

Provides coverage for certain diabetes medications and contraceptives, and expands access to blood glucose test strips. Some examples of contraceptives and diabetes medications eligible for coverage include:

  • Intrauterine devices (IUD)
  • Oral contraceptives
  • Diabetes oral agents
  • Insulin

Assists with the costs associated with approved insulin pumps and supplies.

The program covers up to 100 percent of costs. The amount depends on annual household income, private insurance coverage ,and device costs. See website for full details.
