Epekwitk / PEI has seven hospitals offering varying levels of care.

The two main referral hospitals providing inpatient, emergency, urgent psychiatric care, outpatient, community and specialty services are:

Individuals in need of urgent psychiatric care can go to the Emergency Room at Queen Elizabeth and Prince County Hospitals. They will be triaged and then see trained mental health staff.
Four community hospitals offer a variety of services that may include emergency, acute care, extended care, and community based services:

Provides individuals experiencing a mental health, addiction, or substance use crisis with streamlined, 24/7 access to a multi-disciplinary team of trained staff in an environment designed to meet emergency/urgent care needs.

Crisis conditions include:

  • A serious, immediate mental health, addictions or substance use concern
  • Risk of self-harm or harm to others
  • Psychosis
  • Emotional trauma, agitation, severe depression or anxiety suicidal thoughts

Provides an 8-week cognitive behaviour educational program to help individuals learn skills to control, face, deal with anxiety, and change negative ways of thinking and behaving.

Offered through weekly telephone support through one-on-one coaching or group-based programming with other adults who share similar challenges. A handbook or online access to written material, positive notes, videos, trackers, supporter information and audio is provided.

Provides mental health and emotional support to eligible individuals and their families.

Services include:
  • Cultural support (access to Elders, Knowledge Holders, traditional healers, and ceremonies)
  • Emotional support
  • Professional counselling
  • Transportation (Assistance with transportation may be offered when professional counselling and cultural support services are not locally available)

Provides free and immediate mental health counselling to help with anxiety, as well as life events causing stress or other mental health issues. Appointments are on a first-come, first-served basis, but visitors will be connected with a counsellor as soon as possible. Sessions are up to 60 minutes with a registered mental health therapist who may also make referrals to other mental health services.Locations and times:

  • Charlottetown - Provincial Addictions Treatment Facility:
    • Clinic is for addictions or substance use related concerns
    • Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 7am-4pm (please arrive by 3pm) and Tuesday 7am-6pm (please arrive by 5pm)
  • Charlottetown - at 18 Queen Street, Suite 106 (Former location James B. Jenkins Center which was a replacement of Richmond Centre):
    • Clinic is for mental health concerns
    • Clinic is for all ages
    • Monday , Wednesday, Friday 7:30am-4pm and Tuesday and Thursday 7:30am-6pm
    • Saturday and Sunday 12pm-4pm
  • Charlottetown - McGill Centre:
    • Clinic is for mental health concerns
    • Clinic is for ages 16 years and older
    • Saturday and Sunday 12pm-4pm
  • Summerside:
    • Clinic is for mental health, addictions, or substance use related concerns
    • Clinic is for all ages
    • Monday , Wednesday, Friday 8am-4pm
    • Tuesday and Thursday 8am-8pm (Please arrive by 7pm)
  • Montague:
    • For mental health concerns: Tuesday 10am-12pm and Thursday 2pm-8pm (Please arrive by 7pm)

Provides six free online therapy sessions for adults with Intellectual Disability and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder experiencing mental health concerns and/or in need of behavior support.

This program is in partnership with and delivered by Your Life Design.

Helps people struggling with low mood and depression to create positive changes in their lives through group sessions.

The program provides information and strategies to help with issues related to depression and helps to apply these strategies to assist in recovery from depression.

Provides various mental health services for children, youth and adults in need. Services offered may include:
  • One-on-one counselling
  • Group sessions
  • Referrals to specialized groups such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Skills Group
  • Referrals to more intensive treatment programs such as INSIGHT program for youth

Participants attend one session per week over a 6 to 7 week period and learn skills to manage patterns of chronic stress and distress. The program:
  • Is based on cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies
  • Covers a different topic and teaches different coping strategies each week
  • Is taught by nurses, social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists, and addiction counselors
