Home Renovation and Repair Assistance

Financial assistance programs related to home maintenance, accessibility upgrades, efficiency rebates, energy upgrades, heritage places preservation incentives, and programs that support vulnerable people to stay in their homes.

Provides programs and encourages residents to reduce their water usage. Programs include water audit, shower head exchange and toilet rebate program.

Provides a rebate up to $2000 to eligible property owners who participate to disconnect their sump pump or storm drain system from the municipal sanitary sewer system and redirect it to the exterior of the building, allowing the water to run into ditches, swales, storm catches, etc. This will help to prevent additional storm water that overloads the Town's sanitary sewer mains and prevents from lifting stations which contribute to conserve local energy.

Provides eligible older adults with financial assistance up to $1,800, depending on income, to help them pay for practical services that help them stay in their own homes. Services covered by funding include:

  • General home maintenance
  • Light house keeping
  • Snow removal
  • Grass cutting
  • Meal preparation
  • Transportation
  • Communication devices such as smartphones, computer modem, and WiFi devices
  • Complements supports provided to seniors by Home Care or family members for daily unmet needs
  • Lifeline Medical Alert System

Provides supports and services to individuals living with a disability. Based on an assessment, support may be provided in one or more of the following areas:

  • Personal:
    • Life skills training in areas like meal preparation, budgeting, grocery shopping, recreational activities
    • Technical aids and assistive devices such as a wheelchair
    • Supports that enable an individual to be self-sufficient and live independently such as in-home supports or personal care workers
    • Specialized care supports to assist with extraordinary care needs
  • Housing:
    • Vehicle Modifications Funding to primary vehicle directly related to disability needs as determined by a licensed Occupational Therapist and adhering to the AAS funding parameters. Maximum funding is $6,000 every 8 years
    • Residential Supports to a paid caregiver to provide daily supervision and guidance in a community-based residential setting
    • Home Modifications Funding for making modifications to primary residence directly related to disability needs as determined by a licensed Occupational Therapist and adhering to the AAS funding parameter. Maximum funding is $10,000 every 10 year
  • Community:
    • Community/Peer connection supports for applicants over the age of 12 to establish connections with peers in a group environment
    • Community participation supports for applicants to participate in the community, such as day programming, a personal support worker, or specialized transportation needs
    • Peer supports help workers working closely with an applicant with a disability who is over the age of 18 to develop, implement, monitor and adapt their life plans as their circumstances change
  • Caregiver:
    • Supervision funding for applicants over the age of 12 who cannot safely be left alone, enabling the primary care provider(s) to attend school or work
    • Respite funding to provide temporary relief for caregivers from full care and supervision demands. The maximum amount is up to $430 per month
    • Behavioural supports help to provide focused interventions for teaching/modelling functional social skills and targeting improvement in non-normative social behaviours related to the safety of self or others
  • Financial: Assistance for basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter, household, and personal supplies through what is called Assured Income

Provides PEI homeowners with a repayable loan of up to $30,000 toward 100% of eligible invoiced costs for the purchase and installation of select energy efficient heating equipment upgrades. Includes:

  • Electrical service upgrades
  • Air source heat pumps that are Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships Cold Climate Air-Source Heat Pump Specification (NEEP ccASHP) compliant
  • ENERGY STAR certified heating equipment: geothermal heat pumps, water heating devices, biomass heating devices, and other energy saving products

All equipment must be purchased and installed by a Network of Excellence contractor.

Note: Loan applications must be made before any work begins. Financing is not available for projects that are already started or completed. Work cannot begin until application is approved.

Designated heritage properties outside Charlottetown and Summerside may be eligible for financial assistance to conserve the building. Assistance may be granted for 25 percent of approved costs to a maximum of $3000.

Provides financial assistance for eligible applicants whose primary residence does not have access to high-speed internet (a 50Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload service). The funding covers one-time costs for internet service providers to complete work that enables access to new or improved internet service.

Approved applicants will receive financial assistance of up to $1,000 total, including a maximum of $350 (HST included) for installation by a registered business.

Note: Applicants must first receive pre-approval of the project prior to the start of any work, purchase of equipment, or any expenses being incurred for the project.

Provides funds to help income eligible households that have income up to $129,000 to switch from home heating oil to electric heat pump.

The Government of PEI has finalized agreements with the Government of Canada to deliver the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program (OHPA) benefits through the Free Net Zero Program. To apply, visit the the Free Net Zero program website for Epekwitk / PEI residents.

The fund is provided up to 5,000 and a one-time payment of $250 from Natural Resources Canada if assessed eligible.

The covered costs include:

  • Purchase and installation of an eligible heat pump
  • Electrical upgrades that are required for the new heat pump
  • Removal of the oil tank

Note: The funds details are different from the other provinces where the program is delivered from the Government of Canada.
