Financial assistance programs related to home maintenance, heating assistance, accessibility upgrades, efficiency rebates, heritage places preservation incentives, and programs that support vulnerable people to stay in their homes.

Provides repayable loans up to $10,000 towards 100% of invoiced costs to help homeowners with upfront costs for equipment, materials, and installation for applicants approved under the following efficiencyPEI programs:

  • Energy Efficient Equipment Rebate
  • Home Insulation Rebate
  • Energy Efficiency Loan Program for Solar Photovoltaic Equipment

Approved applicants can apply for one loan under this program. However, after the loan is paid off, they can apply for another loan.

Provides free insulation to eligible applicants. Access PEI connects homeowners with contractors who will install the insulation.

Provides an alternative energy source to heat homes. Electric Thermal Storage (ETS) system (water heaters, room/space heaters, and furnaces) and Smart Grid technologies takes energy from renewable resources such as wind and stores excess energy in home's heating and/or hot water systems to use instead of fossil fuel or less efficient systems. Currently there is a surplus of wind energy. The program offers $0.08/kwh rate for individuals who participate in the program by purchasing or leasing ETS equipment to heat their home. The City of Summerside guarantees this kwh rate for five years.

Provides financial assistance to help cover the cost of major structural renovations to private homes. Eligible renovations include structural, heating, plumbing, and electrical systems, improvement for life safety, and accessibility upgrades for applicants with a permanent disability.

Provides funds to help income eligible households that have income up to $129,000 to switch from home heating oil to electric heat pump.

The Government of PEI has finalized agreements with the Government of Canada to deliver the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program (OHPA) benefits through the Free Net Zero Program. To apply, visit the the Free Net Zero program website for Epekwitk / PEI residents.

The fund is provided up to 5,000 and a one-time payment of $250 from Natural Resources Canada if assessed eligible.

The covered costs include:

  • Purchase and installation of an eligible heat pump
  • Electrical upgrades that are required for the new heat pump
  • Removal of the oil tank

Note: The funds details are different from the other provinces where the program is delivered from the Government of Canada.
