Helps residents who want to stop smoking or using other tobacco products by covering 100% of the cost of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) products and specific smoking cessation prescription drugs. There are two options for treatment, available once a year for 6-18 weeks of treatment:
  • Option 1: Non-Prescription Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) products such as patches, gum, lozenges, or inhaler
  • Option 2: Approved prescription medication (Zyban or Champix)

Funding available to help with the cost of glucose sensor technology (Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) or Flash Glucose Monitoring Systems) to monitor sugar levels in individuals with diabetes.

Supplies that are eligible for coverage include:

  • Abbott Libre2
  • Dexcom G6 sensor or Dexcom G7 sensor
  • Medtronic Integrated (CGM) Guardian 3, Guardian 4 Sensor or Guardian Connect CGM

Once approved, sensors can be purchased in person from any PEI pharmacy at a reduced cost. Out-of-pocket cost is based on household income and private health insurance coverage.
Eligibility runs from the start date noted on the approval letter/email to June 30th each year. Annual applications are required and must be received by July 1st. Applications can be sent in up to three months before the deadline.

A national program that provides coverage to registered First Nations and recognized Inuit for a specified range of medically necessary items and services that are not covered by other plans and programs. The benefit categories are:
  • Dental care
  • Eye and vision care
  • Medical supplies and equipment
  • Drugs and pharmacy products
  • Mental health counselling
  • Assistance with medical transportation to access medically necessary services

Mental health counselling, emotional support, community based cultural support services, and some assistance with transportation costs is available to those affected by missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.

Transportation assistance is provided when local professional counselling and cultural support services are unavailable, including costs to see Elders and traditional healers away from home.

Provides funding for people with muscular dystrophy so they can obtain wheelchairs, scooters, orthotics, hospital beds, and other essential equipment. The following categories of assistive equipment are eligible for funding:

  • Access equipment (door openers, ramps, lifts)
  • Bathroom aids
  • Beds and mattresses
  • Breathing aids (ventilators, CPAP/BiPAP machines)
  • Lifts (hydraulic lifting device and swing/chair lifts)
  • Miscellaneous (Repairs or modifications, batteries)
  • Mobility aids (power or manual wheelchair, scooters)

Note: Must receive approval from MDC prior to purchasing the item.

Provides medical and respiratory equipment for individuals who are diagnosed with ALS. May include:

  • Hospital beds
  • Wheelchairs
  • Ceiling lift tracks
  • Specialized seating cushions
  • Bath benches and commodes
  • BiPap machines
  • Cough assist units
  • Communication program for iPad or tablet

The assistance of an equipment technician will also be provided. Equipment provided is subject to availability.

Provides families with a bridge pass and/or $ 25 gas card for trips to Moncton and $50 gas card for trips to Halifax, Saint John, or beyond to assist with transportation for medical purposes.

Note: Applications must be submitted early enough to allow time for approval in advance of the travel.

Responds to unmet needs of First Nations children no matter where they live in Canada. Includes:
  • Informing families about the help available for their child and how to access it
  • Coordinating access to products, services and supports
  • Providing funding when it is needed to make sure products, services and supports are accessed without delay
Provides funding that can help with a wide range of health, social and educational needs, including the unique needs of First Nations 2SLGBTQ+ children and youth and those with disabilities.
