Health Expense and Medical Equipment

Provides free service dogs to help people with mobility impairments be autonomous. The guide dogs assist people with their daily lives and are trained to pick-up objects on the ground, serve as a support or rest and pull a wheelchair.

A three week training course is required to be completed, beginning with a half-day evaluation with a physiotherapist and dog coach. All training is done in Quebec. Accommodations and meals are provided. If a child is attending, parents are also housed.

Provides free service dogs to young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The dogs help reduce stress and anxiety, help with socialization and language skills, and improve sleep.

A seven day training course is required to be completed, beginning with an evaluation of the youth's needs and interest in the dog. All training is done in Quebec. Accommodations and meals are provided. Parental involvement at the training is required 24 hours a day.

Radon detectors, which measure the amount of radon in a home, are available to borrow from public libraries for a short period. Long-term detectors can be purchased through LungNSPEI.

Assists individuals in purchasing equipment specific to their MS needs and provides a grant of up to $1000 annually. Equipment includes:

• Mobility, transfer and assistive devices
• Bathroom equipment (accessibility and safety devices)
• Kitchen aids
• Computer adaptations
• Vehicle modifications
• Equipment repair
• Air conditioners

Provides confidential and supportive reproductive and sexual health care to Islanders of all genders, orientations and ages. Please note some services may only be available at a specific location.

Sexual health services include:

• Sexual health education and counselling
• Sexually transmitted infection screening and treatment
• Birth control counselling and prescriptions
• Pregnancy counselling, testing and support
• Abortion services (medical and surgical)
• PrEP and PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis)

Reproductive health services include:

• An initial fertility assessment for couples without a primary care provider
• Prenatal care for individuals without a primary care provider
• Menopause counseling and care for individuals without a primary care provider
• Maternal (perinatal and postpartum) mental health services
• Pregnancy loss counseling
• Pap/pelvic exams
