Services that provide a voice for the rights and interests of youth, such as information, referral , child protective services, and representation services.

Staff are available to assist families and individuals affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder to prepare for meetings with professionals, government, and schools involved in the diagnosed individual's care and education. Services include:
  • Providing families with information
  • Helping prepare families for meetings
  • Attending meetings with families as needed
Types of meetings where support may be required include:
  • Working with staff at a diagnosed child's school
  • Applying to government/other agencies for respite support
  • Other situations specific to a person's autism spectrum diagnosis where support is required

Provides outreach, advocacy and follow-up services that address the social and emotional needs of BIPOC individuals on PEI. This is provided through:

  • Assessment of needs
  • Support
  • Connecting to resources
  • Advocacy
  • System navigation
  • Assistance with filling out forms
  • Accompaniment to meetings
  • Other needs as they arise
  • Identification of system gaps and engaging the community to fill those gaps


Navigation and advocacy support is available around issues of:

  • Justice
  • Education
  • Health care
  • Housing
  • Employment
  • Discrimination

By law, anyone who thinks a child is being abused or neglected by a parent or guardian must call Child Protection Services. Call if you think a child is/has:

  • Being physically, sexually or emotionally hurt by a parent/guardian
  • Been hurt and a parent/guardian did not prevent it but could have
  • Living in a home where there is domestic violence
  • Being neglected by their parent/guardian

Note: Child is defined as 17 years and younger * Sexual activity: Criminal Code of Canada defines age of consent as "...18 years where the sexual activity involves exploitative activity, such as prostitution, pornography or where there is a relationship of trust, authority or dependency. For other sexual activity, the age of consent is 16 years of age." See the Criminal Code for more details or call.

PEI's Child and Youth Advocate is an independent officer of the Legislative Assembly and supports the rights of children through individual advocacy services such as:
  • Hearing concerns directly from children, youth and their families and helping them to have their concerns heard and taken seriously.
  • Concerns might centre around experiences with government agencies such as: Adoption Services * Health/Mental Health/Addiction Services * Child Protection * Education * Justice * Social Services * Or other agencies.
  • Connects youth and their families to programs and services
Note: Children and youth have the right to talk to the Child and Youth Advocate privately.

Provides assistance to youth who have received a Probation Order from the Courts. Such orders require the offender to comply with specific conditions while on probation and each offender is assigned a Youth Justice Worker to help monitor their compliance.

Note: While people can contact Youth Justice Services at any time with questions about services and programs, offenders should contact the Youth Justice Worker assigned to them for matters specific to their personal case whenever possible.

Serves as an independent representative of the child/children involved in high-conflict custody cases. The aim is to protect and advocate for the best interests of the child/children and assists with family law issues of parenting time and decision-making responsibility regarding the child.

Helps to oversee the financial and/or personal affairs of individuals who are incapable of doing so themselves and who have no trusted family or friends to do so for them. Types of assistance provided by this office may include:
  • Protecting the legal and financial interests of children under age 18 years
  • Establishing and maintaining an infant Trust
  • Protecting the legal, financial and personal and health care interests of vulnerable adults who require assistance in decision-making
  • Acting as an independent interest for minors or persons with disabilities on insurance settlements or in court matters with financial implications to the person
  • Administer the estates of missing or deceased persons

Provides information to youth who have been impacted by a sexual picture/video being shared by peers. The goal of the website it to provide teens with practical steps they can take to regain control over the situation.

Information includes:
  • How to contact websites and online services to request an image/video be removed
  • Guidance on involving a safe adult
  • Importance of self-care
  • Recognizing when things have gone too far

Hears cases where the defendant is between ages 12-18 years and is alleged to have committed a criminal offence(s).

Online information is available about what to expect and what is recommended when charged with an offence and preparing to attend Youth Justice Court.
