ResourceAbilities

AKA: PEI Council of People with Disabilities (former name); Formerly PEICOD (former name)

Works to promote the full participation and inclusion of people with disabilities through a variety of services.

Provides two types of awards and scholarships:
  • Foundation Award: Awards of up to $500 annually toward costs for items approved by the Foundation's Board
  • Memorial Scholarship: Scholarships of up to $500 towards the cost of post-secondary education, at a recognized educational institution

Application deadline is June 30th of each year.

Parking permits that allow permit holders to park in specially designated parking spots that are closer to building entrances.

Permits are valid from January-December and must be renewed annually. Temporary permits are available for up to nine months, in three-month increments.

The fee includes a membership to ResourcesAbilities.

Assists people with disabilities with their job search and related issues. Includes:

  • Career decision making
  • Skills enhancement (helps individuals identify and apply for education and training and find appropriate funding)
  • Job search
  • Making contact with employers
  • Ongoing assistance for the employee and employer
  • Assistance with Abilities@Work which provides wage subsidies for employers that hire eligible participants

Provides individuals with disabilities an opportunity to learn more about careers of interest through a short-term mentorship with an employer. The program is coordinated by the Canadian Association for Supported Employment in collaboration with partner organizations as a hub in each province.

Disability Benefit Applications and Appeal: Assistance with applications and appeals for federal and provincial programs. Includes:

  • Home Renovation Program
  • PEI Affordable Housing Program
  • IRAC Appeals

Provides a fun, recreational, and multi-sensory environment for people with sensory, cognitive, and physical disabilities. Stimulation and relaxation are provided through the use of smell, touch, sound, colour, and light. Training on how to use the room is provided.

One-on-one tutoring for children with disabilities who would otherwise lose school and literacy skills over the summer months. The tutoring is tailored to meet the needs of the student and in consultation with teachers and resource staff. Tutors come to the child's home but if not possible, they can meet the child somewhere in their community. Tutoring is generally for one to three hours per week and lasts for eight weeks.
Application closes at the end of May each year.
