Public Health - Newborn Programs

Provides programs for parents of newborns from birth to 8 weeks. Includes:

  • New Beginnings Program: Public Health Nurses provide home visits shortly after new parents and babies leave the hospital so new parents have an opportunity to ask questions about breastfeeding, your health, and your baby's health. Extra supports can be provided if needed.
  • Best Start Program: A voluntary in-home program for new parents that provides information and support to promote the healthy development of your child during a child's first three years.
  • Period of PURPLE Crying Program: Introduced in hospital after your baby is born to help parents and caregivers better understand normal crying and provide information on coping strategies.
  • Born to Read: A Public Health Nurse provides you with a book and library card for your new baby during your 2-month scheduled home visit.
