Islanders can apply for rental housing in Family Housing units located in nine communities or be provided with a rent supplement benefit to help pay for private landlord owned housing anywhere in PEI. For most applicants, rent is based on 25% of total household gross income.

Family Housing units may be available in the following communities:
  • Alberton
  • Charlottetown area
  • Georgetown
  • Montague
  • Mount Stewart
  • O'Leary
  • Souris
  • Summerside
  • Tignish
Most communities have one, two, three, and four bedroom units available. Generally the tenant is responsible for utilities, must furnish the apartment, and maintain tenant's insurance.

Eligibility:
-Households (families or individuals) that are below one or more of the adequacy, suitability, or affordability standards
-Household spends 30% or more of its before-tax income to access local housing that meets all three standards
-Income must be below the following annual gross income levels to apply:

-Bachelor $26,500
-One Bedroom $39,500
-Two Bedroom $43,000
-Three or Four Bedroom $45,000

How to Access:Apply online or complete paper application form and return to any PEI Housing Services office * Housing staff will then contact applicants to set up an in-home interview
Documents Required:Completed application form * PEI Health Card * Staff will inform applicants what documents to have available for proof of income and household expenses when booking the in-home interview
