Individuals may request different types of criminal record checks (CRCs) that are often required for employment, volunteering, or adoption screening. Types of CRCs:
- Name-based Criminal Background Check: Uses names and date of birth to check a person's criminal history
- Certified Criminal Background Check: Uses fingerprints when a name-based criminal record checks do not provide a definite way of confirming a person's identity
- Police Information Check: Also known as police certificate, background check, or reference check
- Vulnerable Sector Check: Police information check plus a check to see if a person has a record suspension (pardon) for sexual offenses
