Free tax clinics are available during the tax season. Volunteers prepare income tax and benefit returns for eligible individuals who have a modest income and a simple tax situation.

Clinics are held at locations across Epekwitk / PEI and tend to run late February to late April.

Products specifications
Eligibility:Families with a modest income and a simple tax situation. Families include individuals, a couple, and their dependents.

In general, a simple tax situation means you have no income or your income comes from the following sources:
-Employment
-Pension
-Benefits such as Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Disability Insurance, Old Age Security (OAP/OAS), Employment Insurance (EI), and Social Assistance
-RRSP (Registered Retirement Savings Plans)
-Scholarships, fellowships, bursaries or grants
-Interest under $1,200

Volunteers do not prepare tax returns for complex situations such as:
-Returns for deceased persons
-Bankruptcy in the tax year (or the year before, if that return has not yet been filed)
-Self-employment (see website for exception)
-Employment expenses, business or rental income and expenses
-Capital gains or losses
-Foreign property or income
-Interest income over $1200 See website for full details and exceptions to the above

How to Access:Dependent on location: may be by appointment, virtual, walk-in or drop-off and pick-up
Documents Required:All applicable information slips and receipts such as: Valid government issued identification * Social Insurance Number (SIN) or valid temporary SIN * Tax Information Slips: T4's, T5's, T5007's, etc * Receipts for medical expenses * Any receipts for charitable donation made and not previously claimed (within previous 5 years) * Tuition receipts (T2202A) * A copy of the previous years Notice of Assessment (if possible) * Banking information to sign up for direct deposit (if applying)
