Learning Assistance

Supports Epekwitnewaq Mi'kmaq students reach their full potential by encouraging academic, cultural, and social growth from Early years to grade 12. Education Program staff work closely with administrators, teachers, and staff of John J. Sark Memorial School, Westisle Family of Schools, Bluefield Family of Schools, and Morell Family of Schools to address the unique needs of First Nations students. Areas of focus include:

• Ensuring education services better reflect student needs, culture and language
• Helping students and their families develop goals to address school absenteeism and discontinuation
• Providing technology support and innovative learning solutions for students, staff, and schools
• Increasing opportunities for Mi'kmaq language and cultural instruction across the province

• Assessment services
• Short Term Programs (STPs)
• Audiology services
• ASL specialist

• Itinerant teachers that can provide either direct or consultative services
• Working directly with schools to provide additional support
• Assessments and evaluations of function vision and braille/literacy
