Provincial government department responsible for developing and delivering programs and curriculum in English and French for children from birth to grade 12, as well as the PEI's public library system and public archives. Also responsible for the licensing and registration of day cares and learning centres and the certification of teachers and early childhood educators.

School-age children born outside Canada, or who speak a language other than English or French at home, are eligible for English as an Additional Language (EAL) or French as an Additional Language (FAL) services. This is a requirement before being registered at a local school.

Provides free in-school supports and services for public school students who are struggling with mental, social and/or physical health issues. Examples of issues the teams can help with include:

Provides a free access to the TD Summer Reading Club web portal that provides free online reading materials that are focused on Canadian authors, illustrators and stories to inspire children to explore the fun of reading. Web access code to the portal is available along with a notebook, stickers, and a postcard for pickup at any of the 25 PEI libraries until August 31.

An optional play-based program for four-year olds before they enter kindergarten.

Children have the opportunity to work and play together which supports their social development, creativity, language development, problem solving and thinking skills, motor skills and general knowledge, which results in a smoother transition to public kindergarten.

Program is offered 15 hours a week out of licensed early childhood centres.
