Helps detect colorectal cancer early by providing fecal immunochemical test (FIT) kits for average-risk individuals aged 50-74 and colonoscopy for those at increased risk (family or personal history of colorectal cancer or high-risk polyps).

The kit allows individuals to take a stool sample in the privacy of their own home and return it to a designated health care site for testing.

A self-referral form is available to apply for a colonoscopy.

Service Description

Eligibility:Eligible applicants for fecal immunochemical test (FIT) must:
-Be age 45-74 years
-Have no family history of colorectal cancer (parent or sibling)
-Be not experiencing any changes in bowel movements, visible blood in stool or excessive vomiting
Eligible applicants for Colonoscopy must:
Have personal history of colorectal cancer or high-risk polyps
Have a first degree relative (parent, sibling, or child) with a history of colorectal cancer or high-risk polyps
-Do not primary care provider
-Be under 75 years old (unless already being monitored)
-Not have symptoms (example: frequent diarrhea or constipation, persistent abdominal discomfort, rectal bleeding, etc.)

How to Access:Register via the website and a FIT Kit will be mailed to you along with instructions for use and sample drop-off locations * You can also call or email to request a kit or pick one up at a local health centre (list available online)
Documents Required:You will need your PEI Health Card and personal health information in order to complete the online registration form * Apply online for Colonoscopy
