Financial Assistance

Provides financial support to older adults living at home with ongoing care needs to pay for their unpaid caregiver. A primary caregiver could be a family member, friend, or neighbor. To enroll, both the care recipient and the primary caregiver must be eligible.

Once enrolled, the care recipients will receive between $250 to $1500 per month, depending on their household income. Once enrolled, no need reapply each year.

Note: Applicant is the care recipient. If the care recipient is unable to participate in the financial assessment due to illness, age, or another reason, an agent such as a family member or an attorney can act on their behalf.

Service Description

Products specifications
Eligibility:Care recipient must:
-Be assessed by Home Care as having high ongoing care and support needs and who are at high likelihood of admission to a long term care home
-Be a resident of Epekwitk / PEI with a valid health card or have applied for a PEI Health Card
-Be 65 years of age or older (for individuals who are younger and meet all other eligibilities will be discussed on a case-by-case basis)
-Have an up-to-date Canada Revenue Agency tax assessment
-Be eligible to receive Home Care services
-Not be a current resident of community care, long-term care, or any other residential facility
-Agree to the terms and conditions of the At Home Caregiver Benefit

Primary caregiver must:
-Be 18 years of age or older
-Be the predominant provider or coordinator of the ongoing care of the care recipient (Can be living a separate home)
-Not paid to provide care to the care recipient
-Be a resident of Epekwitk / PE with a valid health card or have applied for a health card
-Be a permanent resident of Canada
